Position: Corporate and Foundation Partnerships Intern Job Type: Internship Team: Development Location: Chicago, IL, USA Compensation: Unpaid. College credit, if applicable The Global FoodBanking Network is an international non-profit organization that nourishes the world’s hungry through uniting and advancing food banks in more than 30 countries. GFN focuses on combating hunger and preventing food waste by providing expertise, directing resources, sharing knowledge and developing connections that increase efficiency, ensure food safety and reach more people facing hunger. Last year, 943 GFN member food banks rescued over 500 million kilograms of food and grocery product and redirected it to feed 9.6 million people through a network of more than 55,000 social service and community-based organizations GFN is seeking an intern (minimum 20 hours/week and minimum 10-week commitment) to start as soon as possible to assist the Corporation and Foundation Partnerships team with researching corporate funding and foundation opportunities and developing cultivation strategies. The Corporate and Foundation Partnerships Intern will work with the supervision of the Corporate and Foundation Partnerships staff. Benefits to the Intern Interns will gain real world insight into the nonprofit sector, global hunger relief, and food security issues. Interns will also gain knowledge of the international non-profit and business communities and learn about global issues affecting individuals, non-profits, businesses, and corporations around the world. In addition to the learning opportunities outlined in the internship description, the Corporate and Foundation Partnerships Intern will gain marketable work experience including hands-on development of research skills, issue specific analysis, non-profit analysis and presentation skills. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to participate in GFN’s unique culture and network and build valuable business and nonprofit contacts. Responsibilities:
  • Conduct online research and compile briefs on company and foundation operations, CSR/sustainability priorities, financials, executives, and geographic priority areas and reach
  • Research company and foundation contact information including the appropriate business unit contact
  • Manage corporate prospect information on Microsoft Excel (general data entry and formatting)
  • Conduct search queries in Salesforce, when applicable
  • Help to identify opportunities and companies to connect with GFN’s work
  • Prepare and present high-level corporate prospect findings in weekly development team meetings, as needed and organization-wide meetings, if applicable
  • Other tasks as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Undergraduate rising junior or senior, or graduate student
  • Demonstrated interest in corporate relations, fundraising, and development is preferred, not required
  • Fundraising/development experience and international affairs and/or business coursework is preferred, not require
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Computers and Electronics –Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Salesforce database is preferred, not required.
  • Internet and Data Searches – Proficient in creating and conducting search functions through internet and online databases
  • Critical Thinking – Use logic and reasoning to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, and potential for alternative solutions to problems.
  • Communication Skills – Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Strong research, editing, and writing skills. Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time Management – Manage personal time well in order to fulfill assignments and organizational requirements.
  • Interpersonal Skills –Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and multi-task.
Work Context:
  • Work in the Chicago office is preferred, not required, remote work is a possibility.
  • Must be self-motivated and an adaptable team player who is comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment.
