A message from the CEO

Delivering meals and hope – Video

Dear Partner – The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic could add another 83 – 132 million people to the ranks of the chronically hungry this year, according to a new report released by UN agencies this week. Even before the pandemic, chronic hunger increased by 10 million people in the last year, and one in four people faced food insecurity. Latin America has been hard hit by both the pandemic and hunger. The region has the fastest rising food insecurity rate in the world, and food banks there are under intense pressure as the virus continues to take lives and cost livelihoods. Yesterday, GFN and its partners discussed how communities can support families and people facing hunger given recent spikes in unemployment and poverty. You can check out the session here. One thing remains clear – in the face of these crises, food banks are delivering meals, and hope.  This one minute video captures the spirit and work of food bankers across Latin America. These heroes inspire me every day. Watch this video: Thank you for your partnership. Your support is providing a lifeline to many. My best, Lisa Moon President & CEO The Global FoodBanking Network
